Six shot dead in Karachi within short span of one hour

KARACHI: At least six people were gunned down within short span of one hour in two separate incidents here Friday.

In the first incident of firing, three people including Mufti Usman Yar, the secretary general of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Samiul Haq Group, were killed when unknown armed men opened fire on a car on Shahra-e-Faisal.

According to the police, four men traveling in the car were targeted by gunmen from both sides of the vehicle near Awami Markaz.

A hospital source said that the victims received bullet wounds on their chest.

In another incident, unknown gunmen shot dead three staffers of a private TV news channel. Sources said the Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) vehicle came under attack in Nazimabad.

"The van was parked close to Matric Board Office when motorcycle riding gunmen opened fire at it", sources added.

The shooters fled after riddling the van with bullets.

The attack left technician, Waqas, driver, Khalid, cameraman, Mehtab, and a guard seriously wounded.

The emergency responders quickly ambulanced the casualties to a hospital but the technician, the driver and the guard could not survive.

According to SSP Central, Amir Farooqi, two biker gunmen armed with silencer-fitted .32 calibre pistols gunned the private TV channel's employees down.

As many as 13 of the total 18 spent shell casings of .32 calibre slugs were collected from inside the DSNG, which shows the attackers may have shot the victims at a point-blank range.

The police have started investigation after recording injured cameraman's statement.
